My Education & Experience
I hold a BA in music education from San Jose State University as well as elementary teaching certificates for both California and Colorado. I kept my Colorado certificate up-to-date from 1979 through 2005 (UCCS) and earned another BA (1999) in English Literature at UCCS with teaching courses and the state test in secondary English Lit. Never a concert pianist I accompanied in schools, taught music for several years at the elementary level with choirs and accompanied for various events. I no longer use those skills except to play duets with my students and for my enjoyment. After teaching in the public schools in California and Colorado four years full-time in music and other subjects I then subbed in my favorite subjects at all levels and high school here in Colorado Springs while raising our two sons -- over twelve years. I almost applied to full-time teach in High School English in District Twenty in 2002, but my spine began to deteriorate and the fatigue would have been too difficult. I began teaching piano in earnest in 2008 and have loved it as I hope my students gained love for music and the piano. When I teach piano I join our local music teacher association as well as the state and national associations. Students in Level 2 and beyond are encouraged to participate in the local piano festivals in which they receive objective feedback on their performances and a medal. I offer many extras such as stickers, inexpensive rewards, composer studies, bulletin board of student art, posting of their art on the website, treats on holidays, recorded recitals, and other teaching extras. I hope to add a Youtube site for posting their great performances in the future and can Facetime with anyone who has that app. and wants to see and hear a lesson from his or her car or any preferred location. I do have wi-fi available.
Right now I am care-taking a family member and cannot teach. I do so miss it.
We are first-time grandparents to two grandchildren with two grown college grad sons/families who are busy in their careers and family lives. Our granddaughter is beautiful and our grandson is handsome and both very smart and hopefully musical!
Our two mini-dachshunds, JoyJoy and Woodrow (smooths) are part of our household and studio and our older female knows how to behave in the the studio while our younger male still learns. They both bark when anyone comes to the door, but they immediately calm down after sniffing.
We have fun! We learn! We practice at home!
